Brand Story: From a Sweet Shop to a University, How Lovely Group Grew to Be an 800-crore Brand

Brand Story: Currently, Lovely Professional University ranks among the biggest private universities in the nation. This group has put in a lot of effort over the years to get LPU to this point as an educational institution. In this new episode of “Brand Story,” we will follow this brand’s journey from opening a sweet shop with a loan of Rs. 500 to growing into the largest private university in the nation.

The 1999-founded group had to wait years to gain support and attract students. The university had official status by the year 2006. According to Ashok Mittal, founder and chairman of the Lovely Group and the Lovely Professional University (LPU), “Any business is bound to encounter obstacles. The key to success is putting forth the necessary effort.”

In 1961, Ashok Mittal’s father, the late Baldev Raj Mittal, started a sweet shop with a loan of Rs 500. His two elder sons, Ramesh and Naresh Mittal, took over the father’s business. Ashok Mittal graduated in law and entered the auto sector under the name Lovely Auto. After success in this field, he thought of moving forward in the field of education and laid the foundation of Lovely Professional College in Phagwara.
